US Building Massive Embassy in Baghdad
By Charles J. Hanley
The Associated Press
"...a former palace of Saddam Hussein's,...."
All right. All of you gather 'round here -- you,
too, Mr. Hanley!
Hmmm. A former palace of Sadam Hussein's what?
Hussein's
palace? His neighbors? His girlfriend? Hanley's
English teacher?
Sam Hussein's former palace?
Yes, a former palace of Sam Hussein, presently a
U.S. Enbassy, but formerly a palace, Mr. Hanley, of
Mr. Hussein.
OHHH! It IS a palace, formerly of Ol' Sam
Hussein!
Is it STILL a palace?
Mr. Hanley hasn't said yet, so I suppose we'll
just have to wait until his editor gets back from his
LOONG vacation and straightens this mess out. A hell
of a way to treat a former palace, if you ask me, but
what can you expect from people who make concrete out
of the remains of Babylon?
Yes, I heard about that, but I thought that the
English language was safe from vandalism.
A Vandal is a Vandal, sir, unless he is a
Visigoth.
THE VISIGOTHS ARE COMING??? Hide the Adjectives!
Fortify the Syntax! Clarify the Possessive Cases!
I'm getting out of here!
