It makes sense for Iran to want nuclear power, if not nuclear weapons (for
deterrence). There has been a population explosion in Iran. Economically
with oil running out, it makes reasonable (though not prudent) sense to
the Iranians to have nuclear power to meet the power demands of that
growing pupulation - although I would disagree that nuclear power is the
answer - but to them, and vis-a-vis U.S. use and other western powers the
use of nuclear power, if good enough for them, Iran feels it must be right
for them also.
Iran is 3 times the size of Iraq and three times the population. It has
not been subject to debilitating sanctions as Iraq was and is therefore
much stronger and a formidable enemy - and I doubt that the U.S. is in a
position to attack Iran - It would be foolhearty and very destructive -
though it is possible that the Christian fundamentalists in Washington
don't care and Armageddon is an option they are not concerned about - and
perhaps desire it.
Strategic strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities would do little to destroy
them because they have been hardened against just such a strike. The U.S.
would have to use nuclear bombs.
As crazy as it may seem to us, Bush is a psychopath and I do not believe,
as I have said here before, that Bush is intending to leave after his term
is up. Bush must be removed and he will have to ousted because he will not
go willingly. 2008, if not November 2006 will be critical and we likely
have not seen anything yet. I am constantly reminded of my army buddy who
use to say, "Let the good times roll because it is later than you think."
I think it is later than we think.
