you are right, some API change is needed.
The way Josef made it in the updated patch from this Monday is backward
compatible for the callers. If there anyone defines a subclass and
redefines the affected method, then I believe the corrected behaviour
balances any (theoretical) inconvenience. (Please note that I see a
difference between an API change to make methods name "nicer"/more-
accurate and an API change which fixes a bad bug.)
