When Ken asked me this question in private conversation I didn't know what this
was all about and said I'd abstain in a vote. However, once I read the
arguments I must say that I can follow Sylvain's, especially when he argues
that XML is a major data format or the least common denominator of data
formats. Thus I vote

A second question is *how* to integrate the XML serialization into POI, but
that not what we vote upon.
