It was > 2 years ago, i honestly don't recall. The crashing wasn't the issue, the problem was when it crashed, InnoDB goes into a recovery mode which it checks all data for integrity, and on a system like ours ( > 6 million mails per day easily), the recovery process could take "extremely" long.
