Sounds interesting. It's fine to copy files between caches on different computers. I would be careful about doing it fully-automatic though. If you do it while polipo is running, you will want to make sure polipo doesn't see any partially copied files. This is explained in the manual; see "Modifying the on-disk cache". I have a feeling rsync may already do this - i.e. it first copies the file to a temporary location, then renames it on top of the old version (if any), but you would need to check this.
