I've found it effective to use polipo with privoxy. If you do have the
possibility to set-up privoxy, you can bypass stream urls by using the forward
directive:
forward .[a-z][a-z][a-z]:80 .
Please note, the last dot is important. This will work for stream servers on
port 80, just substitute the 80 for other stream ports. AFAIK privoxy won't do
regexp on ports.
