it in a playful tone and with total respect for Juliusz.)

This is how the thread reads to me:

    Will: The current master branch is not release worthy and only you
    know why.

    Juliusz: The mysterious bug shall remain mysterious!

I have previously seen several mentions on the mailing list that "the
local interface is broken", sure. But what is broken about it? What are
the symptoms? How would one go about reproducing it? Does anyone know
exactly which commit on the master branch introduced the bug? If you
don't know, could you explicitly state that? (I wouldn't want to spend
time investigating an issue when it seems that somebody else has already
done (part of) the work but hasn't published the results yet.)
