Agreed on Eastman, to an extent. You wrote: >>It's the human condition that's the source of most of the misery in the >>world, not any particular ethnic or religious group. AIPAC is a Jewish organization by membership, intent, and action. American Jews opposed to it cannot fight it any more than Arab-Aemricans, who are more heavily oppressed. Sean McBride <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: On Dick Eastman I regularly see complaints from Dick Eastman about why I don't pass on his posts to this group. I should probably clear this up for the record. Eastman comes across basically as a good-hearted person, an idealist and a truthseeker, who has made major sacrifices in his life to pursue his intellectual investigations into how the world works. Some of his analysis is original and interesting. He may well not harbor any malevolent feelings towards Jews as a whole -- I can't be certain. But many of his posts are framed with rhetorical tropes and themes straight from classical anti-Semitic writings, and can easily be used to whip up anti-Semitic hatred. He doesn't seem to be able to gain control over his language, to make careful discriminations. He's like a big friendly sloppy dog who tracks mud all over the carpets. So: while I respect Eastman's sacred right of free speech, I am not interested in circulating materials that can be misused to promote bigotry and hatred. The idea that Jews somehow have a monopoly on bad behavior throughout world history has to be one of the craziest memes that has ever come down the pike. Everywhere one looks, one encounters bad behavior among other groups, all other groups. It's the human condition that's the source of most of the misery in the world, not any particular ethnic or religious group. We are a flawed species, to say the least. The only thing that redeems us is the struggle to try to do good as best we can. --------------------------------- Expecting? Get great news right away with email Auto-Check. Try the Yahoo! Mail Beta.
