They beat up on TR because he was against monopolies, they forced him to leave and start another party, they turned their backs on child labor, unsafe working conditions, low pay, no health care, etc (all in the 19th c and early years of the 20th c). And of course they turned their backs on civil rights as well. And then there is their later history (since WWII) of merely serving the rich and powerful, which is too well known for me to comment on. And now we have our present "oil war" in guise of a "war on terrorism"! Since when is all this "honorable"? Of course, if you are a Republican named Prescott Bush (G Bush's grandfather) and your UBC bank (which he managed) is merely a front bank for the Nazi Thyssen coal and steel conglomerate in the 30's and 40's, and you materially aid the Nazis, even during wartime, this too must be "honorable"! (These facts are now revealed in formerly closed US archives. But also surf the web. Many articles reveal these sordid details, including articles and books by a former US War-crimes prosecutor, John Loftus.) In fact, Fortune 500 companies, many of them, also aided both Bolshevism and Communism! Eg,in 1933 Ford sent 450 US citizens (and Ford employees) to set up a car factory under Stalin's Soviet tryanny! Of course were Ford, or DuPont, or Morgan Bank people ever called before the McCarthy hearings for aiding and abetting Communism? No, of course not. Only the powerless appeared. The people who really helped the communists never appeared; and the Media, virtually entirely Republican then as now, won't print a word of this either. Not a single important person who aided the Communists in Russia was ever called to account for his actions. Ford, Morgan, Rockefeller, DuPont, Pew, Heinz, Coca-Cola, GM, IBM, ITT, et al also materially aided the Nazis (not just Prescott Bush), including during the war when the US and its allies were fighting against them! But this too is "honorable". Indeed, Prescott Bush was branded by the US government a traitor in 1942, but being "one of the (rich and powerful) boys" he got off, as did his Nazi front bank UBC, whose assests were unfrozen and returned in the early '50's. These very same Wall Street people, in 1933, also tried to hire (ret) Marine Commandant Smedly Butler to overthrow FDR because they were worried about their money (FDR had gone off the gold standard), and also worried because FDR was implementing worker-friendly legislation, like child-labor laws. But a coup d'etat is also "honorable". And just who is now aiding Chinese Communists?--the fortune 500 companies, naturally(while at the same time these "patriots" are closing down American jobs in the process!). No, if we stick to the real definition of "honor", Republicans can't use it. "Traitor" and "Evil" are the only words they can use to describe their past and present actions. As a Christian, I take some comfort in the sayings of both the OT and NT regarding wealth. Jesus is quite clear: the rich will not have an easy time justifying their actions in the next life. Here they may (and do) reign supreme: there,however, they will be enjoying the fruits of their ill-gotten gain and their will-to-power: and (unhappily for them) they will have all eternity to think about their ungodly actions. (These same people don't really think God exists, or if He does, he is an "absent God", a mere "Clockwork deity", that once he creates life he backs off and has nothing to do with his creaton.) Unhappily for them, that isn't so. Justice may well not reign here: but rest assured that it reigns in heaven. And not all the Ford or Rockefeller or Gates foundations (or grants) in the world will ever make up for the lives and property and environment lost, diminished, or destroyed in their grab for more money and power.
