The masses are conservative by nature, their political consciousness lags behind the object conditions of their lives. But as surely as night follows day, just as the inevitability of this financial crisishad to come, so will the mobilization of the masses as all the mechanisms that had previously relied on to maintain a decent standard of living and freedoms (the Democrats and the ALF-CIO) not only are impotent but now actively act in the interests of the ruling classes. The timing of the elections and the financial meltdown has the makings of unprecedented convulsions, as the diagonally opposed needs of business and workers are bound to result in violent clashes.
