The Center for Values and Social Policy in the Philosophy Department
of the University of Colorado at Boulder is pleased to announce an
upcoming "Think!" lecture.

* What: "Think!" Lecture on "What's Wrong With Racial Profiling?" by
Professor David Boonin (CU Boulder)

* When: Tuesday, October 7th, 7:30 - 9:00 pm

* Where: Old Main Chapel, CU Boulder

Racial profiling is a policy that takes race (or perceived race) into
account when determining which people should be investigated, or how
thoroughly they should be investigated, in the attempt to reduce
crime. Polls consistently show that most Americans, all across the
political spectrum, find it objectionable. But while it seems clear
to many people that racial profiling is wrong, Dr. Boonin will argue
that it is surprisingly difficult to say just what, precisely, is
wrong with it.

Professor Boonin has been teaching philosophy at CU Boulder since
1998. His interests lie in the areas of applied ethics, ethical
theory, and the history of ethics. He is currently working on a
project on issues in applied ethics related to race -- especially
affirmative action and slave reparations, but also hate speech codes,
hate crime statutes, and racial profiling.

All "Think!" events are free and intended for the public. For more
