A City Hall hearing on making Eid Ul-Fitr and Eid Ul-Adha official school holidays drew a packed audience of more than 250 to City Hall, even though the resolution under discussion carried no legal weight. "The reality is ever since 9/11, there has been discrimination and there has been bias, and there has regrettably been some people in New York who made our Muslim-American neighbors feel they are not welcome here," said City Councilman David Yassky (D-Brooklyn). Councilman Robert Jackson (D-Manhattan), the chief sponsor of a resolution asking for action by the school system and the state Legislature, noted that 10 to 12 percent of the school population is Muslim. "I am one of them," he added.
