I don't think that the governor of Alaska should be characterized in
such a negative generalized fashion. But her experience can be
charaterized in context. She was a weatherwoman on TV as a temp job,
a stay at home mom for a period of time, mayor of a village of 6000
people (which correlates with president of a condominium association
for a small condominium complex in terms of range and simplicity), a
job which she left in considerable debt, she is known for getting rid
of competent staff who try to get credit for their own initiatives
instead of allowing her full credit, and she became governor where she
enjoys a high, 80% in fact, approval rating. The state of Alaska has
a huge amount of natural. resources capable of sustaining four times
its population without drilling any of its wildlife reserves. But it
has a relatively small population, about the size of the city of
Baltimore, Maryland excluding its suburbs. To her credit, she likes
to get up close and personal with people in her state and has an
incredible self confidence unbacked by training, academic or
otherwise, knowledge, self attained or otherwise, or experience. An
example of her up close and personal approach is to handle Alaska huge
high school drop out rate by suggesting that drop outs be able to give
her a personal call during which call she will personally encourage
the potential or actual dropout to stay in school. Now, you figure on
a population around 674,000 for 674,000 square miles, not every
citizen gets a whole acre of land if it were ever to be distributed
that way but it is still the least density population in the US. Of
that population, consider what % of the population is school age and
then what percentage of those are dropping out and likely to give her
a call, and you actually have a number whose maximum she should
probably handle as personal calls. For other facts, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska
Alaska has the highest cost of living in the US, and the lowest
religiosity of any state in the US.

65% of the state is owned and managed by the federal government, not
Sarah Palin.

As for consulting God every morning , noon and night, so do I, as an
eastern Orthodox Christian, the religion of Palin's (1/8
Yupik )hubby's relatives (that he doesn't practice) and other Alskan
natives.

Redneck is usually written as one word. I come from and am glad for
redneck ancestry myself on both sides.

She is otherwise, face it, not quite ready for prime time even as a
comedienne because she can't yet think on her feet or keep from
repeating the same one liners, much less, as the Couric interviews
showed, handle sustained discussion in even her non standard
colloquial English. Diplomacy requires that she represent our
standard English as a minimum with college level English as a norm.
College level academic English is something, by the way, that George
Bush was capable of utilizing as a student as I can personally attest,
because I had a job working in the Yale library (low level to be sure)
at the time. Our leadership should not be dismissive of the standards
of excellence we ordinary citizens all try to attain and maintain.
It's one thing to endure a president unrelentingly pretending and
intentionally dumbing down toward some mythical folksiness when he is
capable of normal educated speech. It is another think to realize
that we are dealing with an individual incapable of the same.
