With respect, regarding Obama as anything more than a self interested slime-ball is suspending belief.
The Obama-McCain debate: Right-wing politicians agree on bailout and militarism By Patrick Martin 29 September 2008 Friday night’s presidential election debate between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain demonstrated that there is no choice in the 2008 presidential election within the confines of the official two-party system. Two candidates stood facing each other, espousing nearly identical positions in defense of Wall Street and American militarism which would, in any other country in the world, immediately identify them as representatives of the ultra-right. Both agreed that all possible resources must be mobilized to prop up Wall Street, regardless of the cost to working people. Obama declared, “We have to move swiftly and we have to move wisely,” although he did not explain why speed was required to save the banks and speculators, but not to stop foreclosures, layoffs and the destruction of working class living standards. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/sep2008/deba-s29.shtml US House backs Wall Street bailout Democrats credit Obama with shifting vote By Bill Van Auken 4 October 2008 In its second vote in five days, the US House of Representatives approved a massive bailout package for the major banks and finance houses. The legislation, passed by a vote of 263 to 171 Friday afternoon, gives US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson virtually unrestricted powers to use at least $700 billion to buy up largely worthless paper assets from Wall Street using taxpayers’ money. The approval of the measure by a wide margin followed the defeat in the House of what was essentially a similar bill on Monday. Then, on Wednesday, the Senate approved a revised bailout package that was supplemented by nearly $150 billion in tax cuts and other measures aimed principally at winning support from the Republican right. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/oct2008/bail-o04.shtml On Oct 6, 3:56 am, studio <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I believe this Presidential vote will be a landslide in > Obama's favor. > > The neo-cons have unwittingly created the need for > change, and then try to hijack the need. > Neo-cons have created more wealth for a few, and > less wealth for millions. > So is it really any surprise that the millions who've > been abandoned seek the government to do more > for them? > > Doesn't surprise me at all. > > Case in point, courtesy of Fox neo-con News: > > Nearly unanimous straw vote for Obama, called > "split at the moment" by Fox commentator. > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTkqosRiyYo > > Uh...yeah.
