Make sure McCain explains his record on birth control at the last presidential debate.
https://secure.prochoiceamerica.org/site/Advocacy?JServSessionIdr001=exm1hr7845.app46b&cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3325 John McCain doesn't want women to have affordable birth control. But if you watch this video, he sure doesn't seem eager to talk about it. Make sure McCain explains his record on birth control at the last presidential debate. This is John McCain when asked if insurance companies should be required to cover birth control if they cover Viagra: I certainly do not want to discuss that issue... I don't know what I voted... I'll look at my voting record on it, but I have, uh, [5-second pause], I don't recall the vote right now. But I'll be glad to look at it and get back to you as to why, I don't... [8-second pause] I don't know enough about it to give you an informed answer because I don't recall the vote; I've cast thousands of votes in the Senate. I will respond to—it's a, it's a... Wow, that's some straight talk. You almost have to see it to believe it, so click here to watch the clip. Then demand a real answer from McCain by asking moderator Bob Schieffer to pose the question next week at the last presidential debate. While John McCain may not be able to remember the vote, I do—it wasn't that long ago. In 2005, he voted against requiring insurance companies to cover prescription birth control, even if they already cover drugs like Viagra. It's such hypocrisy for a candidate to talk about how we need to prevent abortion, but then to oppose improving access to birth control! Ninety-eight percent of American women use birth control at some point in their lives—and millions of them will be watching on Wednesday, trying to make up their minds about the election. We can't let this opportunity slip away. In the last presidential debate, with tens of millions of Americans watching, Sen. McCain must be forced to explain his record. Please take just a minute to watch this video and send your note to Bob Schieffer, moderator of Wednesday night's debate. Ask him to ask John McCain our simple question. https://secure.prochoiceamerica.org/site/Advocacy?JServSessionIdr001=exm1hr7845.app46b&cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3325 "Shouldn't insurance companies be required to cover birth control if they cover Viagra?" And after you've contacted Mr. Schieffer, please click here to tell your friends and family to join you. Election Day is just three and a half weeks away. Let's do everything we can to elect fully pro-choice Barack Obama. You can start by making sure that the "straight talk" from John McCain includes a straight answer on women's access to prescription birth control. Thanks for all that you do.
