A flyer headlined "Eggstravaganza!" was given to students this week at
three elementary

the Dearborn Public Schools district, which has a substantial number of
Muslim students. The flyer described an April 12 event at Cherry Hill
Presbyterian Church in Dearborn featuring an egg hunt, relay race, and egg
toss. It asked students to RSVP "to secure your free spot" and included
images of eggs and a bunny.
"It really bothered my two kids," said parent Majed Moughni, who is Muslim
and has two children, ages 7 and 9, in Dearborn elementary schools. "My son
was like,

Leaving aside the wisdom of any school district anywhere distributing
material for events at a place of worship in the current church-state
rhetorical climate, is there a reason why dad didn't let the kids speak for
themselves? And what's the big deal. It's not like Easter egg hunts have
retained any kind of Christian connotation. The new life symbolism of the
egg from the Middle Ages is lost on most Americans. (Yes, the Easter Egg
hunt was originally part of a theology
culture<http://www.theholidayspot.com/easter/history/icons/easter_egg.htm>with
the egg central to Easter feasts. The hunt was for Christian
children. Have to make it fun.)
There seems to be this little phenomenon happening in the United States,
Muslims complain that they are somehow not being respected in the culture,
either through distributed leaflets, not allowing face covering for women
in banks, or women not playing along with "wear a jihab" day, and the media
comes running. It's as if they've turned the media Pavlovian. (Perfectly
natural since the lamestream media is addicted to controversy real or
imagined AND trying to placate Muslims.) And the Muzzies are taking
advantage.
We Americans may see this as a nothing complaint, but to Muslims it seems
to be a big deal. If any of us weren't interested, we just wouldn't go.
Muslims call up their well-trained media hounds to report what is
essentially a non story.
An Easter egg hunt advertisement does not violate the Constitution. This
Muslim dad is going to find that out. He is also going to find out that
the Chicken Little principle is alive and well in the United States.
Sooner or later with all the complaining, no one is going to pay any
attention.
As for Christians trying to convert his children, uh, all religions have
some sort of evangelical component. There's quite a bit of poaching among
the various Christian brands, in fact. It's part of religion, even Islam.
Anyone who lives here in the US, a nation founded by Christians of a whole
lot of stripes, ends up being a target at some point. It's part of being
an American.
CL's advice: learn to live with it and say "no, thank you" to such
invitations. Otherwise, please consider going home.
