Out there in internet land, there is a story that is circulating that three
Italian girls were fined the equivalent of $3,500 for offending Islamic
tourists at a resort in Messina by wearing what would be considered normal
beach outfits in Italy.
*Yeah, right. As if the Italians care about what other Italians think of
them, let alone tourists.*
Having spent more time in Italy than any other foreign country, I can say
unequivocally that teeny tiny bikinis and Speedos bordering on g-strings is
the norm on the beach and anyone who doesn't like it can go pound sand.
That's just the way it is.
*Some things the world should not see, but the Italians don't seem to care.*
Naturally, on this side of the pond, where a good chunk of the population
is predisposed to believe ANYTHING outrageous we hear about Islam, as the
tale of three girls being fined and compared to prostitutes for being close
to nude on the beach spread, this story caught fire, and the comments
abounded.
"Coming soon to a beach near you."
"What Islamization Means"
"What would they do on a nude beach?"
"Islam has no place in a free country."
Well, folks, the tale originates in a "newspaper" akin to our very own*
Onion* called *Il Giornale del Corriere* or *The Daily Courier*. It is
characterized as "bufala" meaning hoax or unfounded story and "ragazze" or
trickery.
*Just to be sure, I contacted a friend who is a native of Italy. He
confirmed via a news article from there

that it is indeed a hoax.*
Sorry. Hate to be the one to say that this particular Islamic tale is just
that - a tale - but it is.
What's sad is that it is plausible enough that a lot of people believed it.
(Except the part about an Italian judge lecturing girls on modesty. As
if.) Lesson learned, though. If we are going to get outraged over Islam,
be sure that the story is solid.
