Israeli university develops personality profiler for strategic adversaries TEL AVIV — Israel has overseen the development of a technique to profile adversaries. The project has been led by two professors, Yair Neuman and Golan Shahar, as well as programmer Yochai Cohen. The profiling method, scheduled to be published in the American Intelligence Journal, has been used to understand the character of Israel's enemies, including Hamas chief Khaled Masha'al. "If we characterize Masha'al as someone with a psychopathic personality, then we would expect him to feel omnipotent, fearless, to perceive others, particularly Israel, as weak and vulnerable, and that his relationships revolve around games of predator-prey," Neuman said. "A man like that won't be significantly affected by injury to innocent citizens or the destruction of infrastructure because he lacks the ability to empathize." Neuman did not say how the profiling technique differs from its predecessors. In the article for the American Intelligence Journal, Neuman, Shahar and Cohen cite an address to the United Nations by then-Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi. The profile of Masha'al, Neuman said, concluded that the Hamas leader would "manipulate and defraud" to serve his personal interest. Neuman said any attempt to appeal to Masha'al's emotions would fail.
