*Good people are still cleaning up behind the looters in Ferguson*
Now that a St. Louis Post-Disgrace reporter is making Joseph Pulitzer proud
by reporting that the police here have a dozen witnesses that back the
cop's account
<http://www.ijreview.com/2014/08/169302-police-sources-tell-reporter-witnesses-coming-forward-corroborate-officers-account/>
of Michael Brown's shooting presented both by a friend of the officer and
the YouTube video that surfaced over the weekend of the two dudes having a
conversation in the background of what the one just saw which just happened
to match what "Josie" said the officer said, here's some more details that
we're getting and the national media is just starting to pick up:
- Gov. Nixon called in the National Guard to protect the police command
center, not to engage with the rioters and looters on the street. Policing
is still being done by local agencies, although the riot gear is out of the
closet.
- Local police across BOTH St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis
are on 12-14 hour shifts 7 days a week. All municipalities are loaning
officers to Ferguson on top of maintaining peace and order - or normalcy,
anyway - in their own precincts. We all know this here, but the city and
county police really do work together and have reciprocal privileges. If a
riot code comes across the radio, everyone goes. When one municipality
buries a fallen officer, the others cover. Plus, the Cardinals are in
town, so there's quite a bit of additional presence down at the stadium and
the late night eateries just in case. So far, the Molotov cocktail
violence has not spilled that far out.
- Our police work shifts without breaks and without overtime. The guys
that have been up in Ferguson are very tired and rarely have a chance to
stop and eat. (Besides, the looters have destroyed a good number of the
cheap places for food up there.) So, there was a call out yesterday for
energy drinks, bottled water, grab and go food, etc., and, as always, the
good people of St. Louis have donated quite a bit of the needed items and
the police wives are organizing transport of said items from specific
locations to the command center. (The rest of us are dropping off at local
police stations.)
- Yesterday, His Excellency, Archbishop Robert Carlson, (good man
despite some unfortunate decisions he's had to make) announced that there
will be a special Mass at the Cathedral Basilica for peace in Ferguson
tomorrow evening and a special collection will be taken up to help the food
pantries and other private agencies in that part of town that serve the
regular people day in and day out and who have been restrained from doing
their usual routines. I expect the 1,500 seat church to be packed.
- For safety reasons, the Ferguson-Florissant School District is closed
for the week. The administrators do not want schools or school buses to be
targets, nor do they want children waiting outside or walking. In
addition, nearby Jennings and Riverview Gardens are also closed. These are
the sorts of districts where kids wear uniforms in order to keep the gang
colors to a minimum.
- Early this morning, Capt. Ron Johnson of the highway patrol FINALLY
said what so many of us have been thinking, and told the peaceful
protesters to go home at a certain point and quit giving the trouble makers
cover. They are mingling amongst the peaceful protesters and sooner or
later, somebody is going to get killed.
- The FAA has a 3,000 foot hard deck over Ferguson which is the landing
approach to the airport. Don't want any stray bullets hitting airplanes.
Helicopters now have limited access since the looters fired shots early
last week.
National media are finally starting to acknowledge that the police have
been quite restrained in their response to being pelted with bottles,
bricks, rocks and driving around with "FTP" spray painted on their cars of
which dozens have been destroyed. The focus from the "media" who really
seem to outnumber the protesters from day to day, is more on the
sensational stuff, not that the police have only shot one person - and he
not only had a gun, but shot at them first. "Doesn't fit the narrative."
The most disturbing thing that has happened and you'd only know if you know
LEO wives, though, is that the death threats to the police and their
families has resulted in several having to change their lives: deleting
social media accounts, hiding married names, the grapevine has it that
there are a number who have just left town, quitting jobs - this is not
fair. Police families do not deserve to be treated this way. They have
done nothing to anyone else other than sacrifice time spent with their
loved ones, and sometimes the loved ones themselves. The Police Wives
Association are sticking together, though.
This is who we are. St. Louis is a large small town. The degrees of
separation are pretty close to two. We help each other. And we do it -
generally - peacefully. God Bless those pastors in Ferguson who tried to
stop the agitators, but, gentlemen, those guys are from out of town and
they were sent here to stir things up. There're on a mission, and if the
signs in the background being carried around last night are true, terrorist
groups.
At this point, it doesn't matter who's side anyone is on. This particular
incident has been chosen to use as a venue to maybe start a race war. Or
at least fan the flames of racial tension. Let's just hope somebody is
brave enough to say it now that a number of witnesses have risked their
lives by telling the truth about a police shooting that doesn't match what
the race baiting industry wants the narrative to be.
*As for the people who stormed the Wainwright Building downtown which
houses the state offices in the city, uh, that's the world's first sky
scraper and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Be careful or
the historic preservation police will come after you. If you think the
National Guard is bad.....*
