A Tennessee man charged with three counts of child rape was released from jail Friday.
The Times Free Press reported John Allan Raper, 19, had sex several times with a girl between 3 and 13 years old <http://timesfreepress.com/news/2013/sep/17/teenager-indicted-on-child-rape-charges/>, according to an Aug. 28 indictment. Police in Fort Oglethorpe arrested Raper and two friends on Sept. 10 after allegedly smelling alcohol on their breath. Raper was booked into Catoosa County Jail, and transferred to Hamilton County three days later. He was released after posting $10,000 bond. The age of consent in Tennessee is 18, but a close-in-age exemption allows minors aged 13 to 17 to engage in sexual acts with partners less than 4 years older. As a 19-year-old, Raper falls outside that exemption. Sex between teenagers has stirred up legal trouble before. *Cordova Man Arrested:* MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Cordova man has been convicted of child rape and aggravated sexual battery involving a 9-year-old girl in Shelby County. Justin Tyler, 35, faces 25 years in prison for the rape case and eight to twelve years on the sexual battery charge. Tyler was convicted of assaulting the girl between April and June in 2011 at the Stonebridge Apartments. Tyler will be sentenced October 24.
