The Hill: GOP plotting to block DC’s new pot law
By Nick Sorrentino

Any Republican who fights the marijuana legalization effort in DC is an enemy of federalism, an enemy of local control, an enemy of small government, an enemy of freedom, an enemy of liberty. In short they are not a small government conservative. They might be a big government conservative (almost as bad as a big government progressive) but they are not advocates for the Constitution.

The GOP Congress should stand up for the idea of local rule and decentralization on marijuana. If they don’t they are absolutely no better than the Democrats. It disgusts me that this is even an issue for some in the GOP at this point.

How can the GOP make the case to the American people that it truly is a party of small government if it allows moves by big government moralists to determine policy on pot? If the GOP wants to screw things up get in the way of legalized cannabis. An absolutely idiotic move.

So is the GOP for small government or not?

(From The Hill)
House Republicans next year will try to block Washington, D.C.’s, newly enacted law legalizing recreational marijuana.
Rep. Andy Harris said he “absolutely” intends to launch a push to dismantle the new law when Congress returns with an empowered GOP majority in the 114th Congress.
The Maryland Republican, who led the GOP’s charge this year against a separate D.C. law decriminalizing the drug, said the newer legalization statute poses an even greater health risk for young people in the nation’s capital.
“It’s obviously even worse for D.C.’s teenagers and young adults than the decriminalization,” Harris said Thursday.
