Browser Vulnerabilities Biggest Endpoint Challenge Heading into 2015 By: Amanda Vicinanzo, Senior Editor 12/04/2014 ( 3:47pm) [image: Bookmark and Share] <http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=250&pub=xa-4a8ac57416db70f7> The number and severity of cyberattacks increased at rapid clip in 2014 and will continue to challenge IT decision makers heading into the new year as they navigate the ever-evolving threat landscape of information security. A comprehensive new research initiative commissioned by Malwarebytes, a leading anti-virus and internet security software firm, conducted by Lawless Research LLC, found browser vulnerabilities present companies with the biggest endpoint challenge. Referring to 2015 as “the year of vulnerability,” Malwarebytes found 72 percent of the 685 IT decision-makers surveyed indicated browser vulnerabilities made security difficult in their organization. Unsurprisingly, companies with more than 1,000 endpoints were particularly wary of the growing number of flaws in web browsers. “It’s sobering to see such a large number of companies suffering from attacks,” said Marcin Kleczynski, CEO of Malwarebytes. “The growing concerns over browser vulnerabilities are a particularly notable trend, speaking volumes about their effectiveness as an attack method. Given the ever-advancing threat landscape, it should be obvious by now that an endpoint security strategy built around a single traditional anti-virus solution isn’t enough.” The research revealed 82 percent of companies experienced online attacks or threats in the last 12 months, with some organizations experiencing as many as eight attacks in the last 12 months alone. Enterprises suffering from an attack incurred severe consequences including a decrease in employee productivity and increased help-desk workload. The impact on an organization was most severe when ransomware was present. Despite its relatively low frequency, ransomware presents significant consequences. The report asserted that, “This potentially speaks to the real-world drain on IT teams struggling to decrypt, recover or suffer the consequences of data loss.” In addition, the data also indicated that the targeted advanced persistent threat (APT) severely impacts organizations because of its “sophistication and highly tailored nature.” Potentially unwanted programs, such as adware and toolbars, showed a high incidence of high penetration but the burden on IT teams was relatively low. Respondents agreed that advanced malware has made traditional endpoint antivirus less effective in removing today’s advanced malware. Consequently, more than three-quarters of IT leaders indicated they plan to adopt multiple endpoint security solutions by the end of 2015. “By employing a layered approach that uses an advanced endpoint security solution, organizations can better protect their data and reduce help desk time, which will positively impact their bottom line,” Kleczynski said. __._,_.___ ------------------------------ Posted by: "beowulf" <[email protected]> ------------------------------ Visit Your Group <https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/grendelreport/info;_ylc=X3oDMTJmMGgyOGQ2BF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzIwMTk0ODA2BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTMyMzY2NwRzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2Z2hwBHN0aW1lAzE0MTc4MDk2MjY-> [image: Yahoo!
