When we were in Istanbul, we did a tour that included this Mosque and several others in the city. We learned from our Moslem tour guide that historically Moslems converted churches and cathedrals in newly conquered Islam lands to Mosques and built Mosques on the sites of "great Islamic victories" as a way of demonstrating their power to local populations. This fact came to mind when the Moslems in New York City, with oh, so many Mosques wanted to build another one adjacent to the World Trade Center......whose bombing and collapse is "considered a great victory for Islam......" Americans need to know and understand the mindset of Moslems who practice Islam in order to be effective in dealing with them. To the Moslems, who hoped to build a mosque at the 9/11 site would be seen by them as a celebration of the destruction of a great Western symbol of eonomic power. They must never be given that site and America needs to understand why.......DC is not helping to educate our people with truth and facts about Islam.......just look at Obama's comments at the prayer breakfast for ignorance and misleading facts he feed to the public.
