Republicans and the DHS
Laurence M. Vance
Congress has passed a one-week funding bill for the Dept. of Homeland Security. Republicans are focused on immigration, in part to please elements of their conservative base who see an illegal immigrant under every bush. Why aren’t Republicans opposed to funding the DHS because it funds the TSA? This is a much better reason to not want to fund the DHS.
The biggest joke was Republican rep. James Jordan arguing against funding the DHS without the bill including language to not fund Obama’s executive action on immigration: “We take an oath in Congress to uphold the Constitution, so how can we fund something a judge has said is unconstitutional?” James Jordan and his fellow Republicans fund unconstitutional things all the time. Probably 95 percent of what they vote for.
