The Confederate Constitution did in fact actually outlaw the “slave trade”, within the confederacy! (*See* Section 9(a) & (b). As I wrote to Brine yesterday, the "Federalist" viewpoint and the reasons for the "Break" can be viewed and documented through numerous writings, (*e.g*.; Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Stephens book, “A Constitutional View of the Late War between the States” (1870); and President Jefferson Davis’s book, “The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government” (1881). Stephens maintained: “It was a strife between the principles of Federation, on the one side, and Centralism, or Consolidation, on the other” In “The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government”, Davis held that: "The Confederates had fought for the maintenance of their State governments in all their reserved rights and powers".
