*Getting Wise to Gun Control Lies * Posted 8 hours ago <http://politicaloutcast.com/2015/12/getting-wise-to-gun-control-lies/> by Tad Cronn <http://politicaloutcast.com/author/tadcronn/> How many times have we witnessed the scenario where some crazy or some terrorist kills a bunch of people in a public place with a gun and within hours, sometimes minutes, the Left is breaking out the calls for gun control? Never waste a crisis is the mantra for Progressives pushing their anti-gun agenda. Apparently, though, years of the same tactics are finally backfiring on the Left. A new ABC News/Washington Post poll <http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/now-oppose-assault-weapons-ban-doubts-stopping-lone/story?id=35778846> has found the highest opposition to an "assault weapons" ban ever. According to the poll, a majority of Americans -- 53 percent -- oppose such a ban, up from a measly 13 percent in 1994. Support for the ban, which was at a high 80 percent in 1994, has fallen to 45 percent. Encouragingly, 47 percent of poll respondents think encouraging more gun ownership is a better response to terrorism than passing more gun control laws, favored by 42 percent. Seemingly closely related to those numbers, a mere 22 percent believe government can stop a lone-wolf attack, while 77 percent have little or no confidence that it can do so. Trust in the government is a little higher in regards to stopping a large-scale attack, 43 percent, but a majority of 56 percent are skeptical that it can. Among the various group statistical breakdowns included in the poll analysis, one of the bright spots is that 6 out of 10 young people oppose a ban on assault weapons, suggesting that upcoming generations may yet take a more responsible and realistic view of things than the immediately preceding generation that flocked to the Democratic flag in 2008 and during the nineties. Basing conclusions on polls is always dicey business because there are so many ways a poll can be intentionally or unintentionally fudged. Still, if the recent poll implies anything, perhaps it shows a trend among Americans toward self-reliance and away from government dependence. That can only be a good thing.
