But the administration scribes over at Vox think differently. President Obama takes the long view, writes Andrew Prokop <http://www.vox.com/2015/12/18/10623470/obama-achievements-2015>. Criminal justice reform? Think in decades. ISIS? “[I]n his view, he's already pursuing the correct policies to fight ISIS and terrorism as a whole… and turn the ocean liner a few degrees.” But between the lines you can tell that the Vox writer is thinking: Oh no, it can’t be true that it has come to this. It’s the liberal Christmas from Hell. At this point we will say nothing about the need for bathroom protocols at Democratic Presidential Debates, because Drudge is on it <https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2015/12/20/bizarre-part-democratic-debate-explained/GyvaBZbnFoghvspiCHoosK/story.html>, and what difference does it make? Since liberals have been trying to make Christmas a hell for years, jolly old St. Ted of Cruz has come out with a parody Christmas infomercial <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3hB3iOQKjY> to make sure that Christmas 2015 is not the last Christmas hell for Democrats. With his adorable daughters as a prop, he lists the Obama administration’s scandals as though they were children’s picture books. Ted’s special offer features old time favorites like “How Obamacare Stole Christmas,” “Rudolph the Underemployed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Speaker of the House” with cigarette and wine glass, and “the Lois Lerner masterpiece ‘Auditing St. Nick.’” When it comes to “The Grinch Who Lost Her Emails” Ted Cruz has his daughter recite the Grinch’s evil mutterings from the much-loved children’s Christmas favorite in a suitably Seussian style. “I know just what I’ll do,” she said with a snicker. “I’ll use my own server and no one will be the wiser.” See what is going on here? It’s simple. We wouldn’t want Ted himself to say anything against Hillary; that would be a Republican War on Women. But Ted’s adorable blonde daughter can recite her lines and wag her finger too, Hillary style, and that’s OK, right, liberals? Because XX chromosomes. All this is good clean holiday fun, but there are serious political matters afoot too this Christmastide. Kevin D. Williamson reminds us what Democrats have been up to, and writes <http://www.nationalreview.com/article/428793/democrats-and-totalitarianism-2016> : For those of you keeping track, the Democrats and their allies on the left have now: voted in the Senate to repeal the First Amendment, proposed imprisoning people for holding the wrong views on global warming, sought to prohibit the showing of a film critical of Hillary Rodham Clinton, proposed banning politically unpopular academic research, demanded that funding politically unpopular organizations and causes be made a crime and that the RICO organized-crime statute be used as a weapon against targeted political groups. They have filed felony charges against a Republican governor for vetoing a piece of legislation, engaged in naked political persecutions of members of Congress, and used the IRS and the ATF as weapons against political critics. The hed for Kevin’s article is “The Democrat’s Theme for 2016 is Totalitarianism.” When you are experiencing the Christmas from Hell, you tend to lash out at the demons poking you with tridents in your own special edition of Dante’s Inferno. Look, it all makes sense. Everything that liberals built is broken. The economy is a mess; health care is a mess; the universities are broken; K-12 education is wrecked; welfare is out of control; the Middle East has been torched. And liberals did it. Then there is the wife of my 60ish friend who’s wondering about all that women’s liberation of which she’d heard tell back when she was young. Or the college women screaming for safe spaces, not from the so-called “rape culture” but really from the anti-woman squalor of the hook-up culture. Or the “mismatched” African American college students protesting on campus in a rage of disappointed hope. No wonder President Obama is taking the long view; no wonder liberals want to drop the hammer on the opposition. If politics is violence and government is force what would you expect a ruling classes to do when things start to spin out of control? Liberals are so good at telling us that there’s nothing to see here that it is easy to forget just what a mess they are in. Everything, but everything they believe in and everything they have rammed down our throats during the last century is failing. No wonder liberals want to abolish Christmas.
