Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, just challenged President Barack Obama’s claim that the United States had “contained” the Islamic State group. Dunford testified with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter on Tuesday before the House Armed Services Committee during a hearing on “U.S. Strategy for Syria and Iraq and Its Implications for the Region.” The hearing focused on current efforts to contain the spread of the Islamic State organization. Rep. Randy Forbes asked Dunford if the United States had contained the Islamic State group, to which the general flatly answered, “We have not contained ISIL.” Dunford’s testimony confirmed what we have known for some time, and it also demonstrated how Obama simply doesn’t know what he’s talking about when it comes to how we are handling the radical Islamic terror organization. The Pentagon’s Joint Staff made news Monday by announcing in a briefing that Islamic State group refugees crossing European borders had been “mostly unimpeded <http://conservativetribune.com/joint-staffs-bombshell-refugee/>.” At what point does one wake up and realize there’s a crucial problem that deserves attention? If we’re talking about Obama, the answer could possibly be “never.” It is doubtful Obama will listen to Dunford’s testimony and implement a viable strategy to contain the Islamic State group — which is why the election cannot happen soon enough. We need a leader who recognizes serious threats and will work to defend our country against them.
