PAULS VALLEY, Okla. - A Pauls Valley junior high history teacher was arrested on Friday after being accused of child abuse.
Rocky Walker, 57, was arrested Friday evening after two students came forward, accusing him of hitting them. Walker is a history teacher at Pauls Valley Junior High and a former pastor at Greater Dimensions Church in Pauls Valley. The assistant police chief said two different children came forward last week involving two separate, unrelated incidents. Police said the first teen came forward early Friday morning about an assault that allegedly happened at Walker's home. The 15-year-old said he was going to Walker's house to help him paint. "He was pinned against a wall. He was assaulted. He was placed in a headlock and struck several times," said Derrick Jolley, Pauls Valley assistant police chief. The second student came forward later that same morning and made a report about an assault he said happened inside Walker's classroom. The 16-year-old said he was there over his lunch break for a punishment. "Said Mr. Walker placed his hand on his shoulder and then struck him several times in the back. When he was done, Mr. Walker hugged him, prayed with him, apologized and sent him on his way," Jolley said. Police said both students had bruises and markings consistent with their stories. Walker pleaded not guilty to the two counts of child abuse during his video arraignment Monday afternoon. He bonded out of jail on a $10,000 bond on each count. "This is very serious. It's alarming. When someone that is in a position of authority that has all these kids around him, he's actually well-respected and looked up to by a lot of people, a lot of these kids. And, for him to take something to this level, it's a serious deal," Jolley said. Several former students defended Walker, saying they don't think he could do something like this. "I was shocked. And, I was kind of appalled and disgusted honestly, because he's just not that kind of guy. I mean, he's a Godly man for starters, and he's so passionate about what he does," said former student Brittnee Stewart. Walker will be back in court June 10 for a preliminary hearing conference.
