I lived in NYC from the late 70s through the early 90s ... I do remember it being far worse than it is now!!! There were "black" sections and "White sections and don't be caught in the wrong section depending on your race ... I have been beaten in brad daylight by people who called me honky and I had a gun held to my forehead after taking a cab to my apartment on a Sunday night ... NYC is a lot more civil than it was 30+ years ago ... perhaps it's worse in other areas, but I think the NY metro area is far less racially charged than it was ... even when the media tries to incite shit, it passes pretty quickly here!!!
