The man who laments the partisan rancor in Washington and who admits he helped contribute to it, could not help but politically grandstand on stage at a memorial service for murdered policemen. What makes it worse is that he lied to grandstand. He uttered a great political talking point that is not even true and I assume he knows it is not even true. He claimed it is easier for teenagers to get Glocks than computers or even books. That is simply not true. And here’s the thing — the media and the left will give him a pass on this because they agree with him. But this was a memorial service for murdered policemen. A significant portion of the country disagrees with the President on the issue and instead of finding a way to find common ground with everyone to honor men murdered while protecting and serving, he just couldn’t help himself. He had to go full jackass. We have reached a point in the country where everything is politicized. And the press who should join the criticisms on this will not because they agree with the President’s agenda. But can’t an agenda be put on pause to honor the fallen? Can’t the President focus on common ground instead of using his time at the podium to alienate a significant portion of the country by pushing a policy issue and doing so with a lie? It would be undignified of any President of either party. But I won’t hold my breath for Democrats to say it was inappropriate. We’ve crossed over into new territory where anything and everything can be politicized in pursuit of an agenda. And that’s really sad. The nation could all be united in mourning for those police officers. The President could lead us in that mourning. But he does not want to. He wants to use dead bodies for politics.
