So I went on a canoe trip this weekend with about 25 people from two generations (half were people in their 50s and 60s and half were their kids (mostly 20s and 30s). A quite varied group when it came to professions, though most all were college-educated. Two had PhDs, two pharmacists, an engineer, a teacher, several nurses, and several successful businessmen and businesswomen.
After we got off the river, there was a whole lot of drinking going on Saturday night. At around midnight, there were still about 15-20 of us up; we were watching several of the younger group playing croquet (under lights). One from the older generation had been drinking quite a bit of whiskey. I've known this man for over 3 decades and never once heard him say much of anything about politics or politicians. In fact, I've known most of these people for at least 20 years (except some of the kids) and never heard anyone mention politics or politicians. But while we were watching them play croquet, one of the younger girls mentioned that no females had made it to the final round in the croquet tournament, and she then said, "It's rigged!" Everyone laughed. Being a news and politics junkie, of course my first thought was whether she was referring to hearing this during the campaigns, but I didn't know, so I didn't say anything. But the guy sitting next to me (the one drinking all the whiskey) then said, "There's no black people in the final round either!" He then yelled, *"BLACK CROQUET LIVES MATTER!!!"* I thought I was going to die laughing, lol. And he proceeded to go into a half-hour tirade of insults heckling the kids playing croquet with every insult you could imagine (mostly from news/politics/current events). Everyone there was in stitches. The younger girls were laughing so hard they had tears streaming down their faces. I couldn't believe it. It was truly a sight for sore eyes - none of these safe space, trigger warning loonbats we see and hear FAR too much of in the news today from the younger generation. Nobody walking on egg shells for fear of being accused of "hate speech". It was as if ALL of us were sick and tired of hearing the same idiotic bullshit from the left that we've been hearing for the past 8 years, and along comes a guy - drunk to the core - mocking the living shit out of all of it, and bringing the house down in the process. It was as if this man was saying what all of us wanted to say but weren't quite drunk enough - *or free enough* - to say. Though I've missed a few due to work or kid commitments, I've been going on this annual canoe trip with this group of people for 30 years (well 30 years for the older ones, anyway; the kids for the past 5-6 years). And though we always laugh and have fun, I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard for that long. My sides and ribs hurt the next morning, and not just from canoeing! It was just too cool to see that this group of people were universally entirely fed up with political correctness in America today. I'm looking forward to next year's trip already. Too. Much.
