That's just wonderful. Right now I have a cat that wandered into my yard while I was gardening. He was half dead (injured, infected, and starving); the vet said he had a 50% chance of living - that was 9 years ago.
And we have a dog we adopted from Animal Control (which was a huge kill shelter in Indianapolis at the time); she'd been there a month, was still about half her ideal weight and was on her way out. Six months later she required $4K in surgery to repair hip dysplasia (she was only 9 months old at the time). That was 12.5 years ago, and she still demands a 1.25 mile walk nightly, lol. And I have another cat I rescued from a cornfield during an ice storm 2.5 years ago (saw him in my peripheral vision as I was driving), and a third my kids adopted from Animal Control 3 days before this past Christmas. I'd seen her when we were there adopting one for my college-age daughter and mentioned I might come back after Christmas and take her home as she was beautiful and so sweet and the poor thing was 10 years old and found homeless on the streets of Indianapolis after having been adopted out of that very same shelter 10 years earlier. They surprised me with her on Christmas morning. I just can't say no to an animal in distress. And frankly I see a goodness in them that you simply don't see in most people.
