Well, The Donald made the mistake of talking about the Second Amendment <http://www.businessinsider.com/hillary-clinton-trump-second-amendment-2016-8>, so now all the Hillary Clinton supporters are running around like headless chickens, claiming he was calling for her assassination, or at least the assassination of her judicial appointees. It all makes for a wonderful distraction from the latest news about Hillary’s corruption as secretary of state. What Donald Trump said, of course, was nowhere near a call for killing anybody. He was talking about Clinton’s desire to curb constitutional rights under the Second Amendment with a battery of gun control laws, something that is spelled out on Hillary’s campaign website. Then he made a comment that “Second Amendment people” may be able to do something. “Hillary wants to abolish — essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know,” Trump said. “But I tell you what, that will be a horrible day, if Hillary gets to put her judges in, right now we’re tied.” Liberals naturally assume that “Second Amendment people” means Terminator cyborgs, and saying “maybe there is” something they could do to stop Hillary’s gun control plans is code for “go get her.” Couldn’t possibly refer to a politically active movement that can fight liberal tyranny through legal means, now could it? For normal people, it was just another off-the-cuff, sarcastic comment, as Trump is prone to make. To the Left, though, it’s virtually a terrorist attack. They don’t care about real ones, but this one, hoo boy. They’ve even sicced the Secret Service (which CNN calls the “USSS” — United States SS) on the Trump campaign, which apparently got a stern talking to, according to CNN <http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/10/politics/trump-second-amendment/>, a claim that was torpedoed by Reuters <http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-trump-secretservice-idUSKCN10L29W> . Meanwhile, the media coverage of the release of new, previously unreleased Clinton emails <http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/09/politics/hillary-clinton-emails-judicial-watch/index.html> is a little bit thin. Remember when Clinton said she had turned over all her emails? That wasn’t true. Many people noticed that there seemed to be no emails from her first couple of months as secretary of state. Well, now some of those emails have been found, thanks to Freedom of Information Act requests and a lot of legal pushing by Judicial Watch. Among the revelations included in them are messages showing Hillary’s aides tried to connect a Clinton Foundation donor with a job at the State Department. It’s not entirely clear, but it sure sounds an awful lot like Clinton was using her then-new State Department post to hand out favors in exchange for money. Amazingly, the story even roused a few people over at the Clinton News Network, like “New Day” co-host Chris Cuomo, who said, “These 44 emails, you know, many of which show coordination between staffers of one and staffers of the other, it’s wrong. She said in 2009 she wouldn’t do it anymore, and it continued after that.” But who wants to talk about that? Certainly not the Clinton campaign, and certainly not the lapdog media. Other CNN talking heads quickly remembered that they were supposed to bash Trump, and other networks have quickly “explained” the latest emails — all perfectly innocent, of course. On the other hand, there has already been the predictable full round of villifications of Trump. “(Trump) makes death threats because he’s a pathetic coward who can’t handle the fact that he’s losing to a girl,” tweeted Sen. Faux-cahontas, Elizabeth Warren. Over at MSNBC, they were calling for Trump’s head. There have been calls for him to apologize, to quit the race, to be investigated, to be arrested, etc. If all of that overreaction isn’t enough to make you fall off your chair laughing, consider that this campaign of fear about all things Trump began on the same day the story came out that the Clinton campaign actually allowed the father of the Orlando shooter <http://www.wptv.com/news/state/orlando-shooters-father-attends-hillary-clinton-rally-in-kissimmee> to sit behind Hillary at a campaign event where she talked about the deaths at the Pulse nightclub. Early stories had Seddique Mateen allegedly saying he had been invited, something the Hillary campaign now denies. Maybe it’s the Democrats who are really trying to get rid of her. I don’t know. Does that make sense to anyone sane, to put the father of a mass murderer behind your candidate? Truly mind-boggling. The Left’s calculated histrionics are doubly absurd, though, when you realize how tame Trump’s comment was when compared to some of the statements by past presidents. “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,” said Thomas Jefferson. “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far,” said Teddy Roosevelt, the inspiration for cuddly teddy bears. Andrew Johnson said, “If the rabble were lopped off at one end and the aristocrat at the other, all would be well with the country.” Then there’s Ulysses S. Grant: “I have never advocated war except as a means of peace.” So don’t buy the liberal talking point that violence and the presidency don’t go together. The president’s most important job, after all, is to be the commander in chief and defend this country, violently if need be. We need someone tough, who can kick butt and take names, not some mousy little thing who’s going to squeak in fear at the least provocation or obstacle.
