"To say that the editors of the New York Times are economically illiterate is to understate their ignorance. Not once in this editorial calling for price controls or their equivalent does the NYT address why Mylan has been able to raise prices of EpiPen like it has: the U.S. Government effectively has protected the company from competition. Furthermore, the CEO's obvious political family ties have not exactly hurt the company's ability to limit competition. Instead, the NYT wants us to believe that companies operating in free markets can raise prices to whatever they like in order to bolster profits. If that were true, then why do oil prices fall?"
