I have to say that there is a small amount of truth in what Peter Goodman says there. The people in this country have let the meaning of Christmas get bastardized and let the corporations dictate how it will be run. Instead of thinking for them selves, they let the media and companies lay down a date as to when to put their combo gear on and wait in line (For what? First grab at an over priced toy or gadget, or the latest trend in “everyone has it, so I need it too?”)
It was announced that we are officially in a recession (and get this have been for a year, too bad no one clued in the president and all the others up there that claimed we weren’t). So what does your leading corporations do in this struggling time? They bait a nation of people that (the majority) have forgotten to stop and think without the aide of the TV, the church, or their government. They think everything is hunky dory and get ready to play their role in Black Friday. Add these two mindless selfless fuses together and I am surprised more people did not die under the feet of careless shoppers looking for a “bargain or deal”. The Christians should remember what the 25th really means, it was not about spending money on big gifts and putting them under trees (they are adhering to more pagan beliefs in that tradition) it was about the birth of God’s son. I do not remember reading in the bible that in remembrance of Jesus’s birth all man should go out and buy tons of gifts and make the moneymakers richer. Man needs to ask for their brain back, think for themselves, stop acting on what these money hungry corporations spout out we ‘should’ be doing. And just do what is right (that good ole common humanity thingy, I know it use to be in people I witnessed it!) You have to realize also we have become a country of reality TV and that while that poor man was being trampled to death. People were b! tching because they had been waiting in line ‘for like forever’. They have become so desensitized to the reality of what we have allowed the government and corporations to do to this nation it did not then and probably will never sink in what happened and their role in it. The media is just the lady in the swimsuit that holds up the card showing what round we are in. Where they once held some credence and respect (well they have crawled so far up the governments butt that no amount of prying will get them out to see, write or speak the truth anymore). In truth there is plenty of blame to go around to Wal-mart, the shoppers the media, and all those corporations that just have to have the last penny and drop of blood from you. One can either put their foot down and tell all to just go spine on their thumb or continue to follow the trend and not think for themselves.
