Once again a partial truth is tossed out to confuse.... Nasar's revolution WAS Socialist and not religious based, as was his followers in Syria, Iraq, and Palestine... The Iranian Mullahs arose in part due to that "irreligious" foundation, and as the Saudis were always opposed to this... With the 1980's, as Arab Secularism failed (ie the governance was as oppressive as Colonialism to the man on the Street) and the coming of the Shia Mullahs saw the re-emergence of the ever continuing Sunni-Shia wars (which saved Europe from further Ottoman incursions into Europe during the 1500' and early 1600's)...
Nasar's revolution rooted itself in the Socialist model partially due on Soviet opposition to EUROPEAN Colonialism... Now of course Nasar IGNORED Soviet Imperialism in Iran while condemning British Imperialism there ( The Shah kicked the Soviet out of Iran post WWII in the late 40's)... As the article states, American opposition to European Colonialism was seen in 1956 in part due to how Eisenhower "saw" Arab opinion forming... Once the ME became a center of Soviet/American COLD WAR games, the Soviets did all they could to ensure no peace between Israel and the Arabs -- even to the point of initially funding Arafat and his PLO during their open Terrorism phase... Now the conflict between Hamas and the PLO today is due to the divide between anti-Religious Secularism and the Iranian backed Religious domination... Now contrast this with the emerging religious pluralism in Iraq, which just officially recognized Christmas... In part this stems from the difference between the SOURCES of governing philosophy... Socialism is rooted in State control of religion/no religion... Iran is rooted in religious control of the state... And the US is rooted neither the state nor religion controlling the other...
