I have been struggling with the issue of Obama being called our first African- American president.
Is his white mother an "African-American" ? His Kenyan father an "African-American" ? How exactly does a man born of a white mother to a father with absolutely no American heritage whatsoever, somehow qualify as the first "African-American" president? He has no "African-American" roots, no generational claim to the harsh sacrifices made by that ethno-cultural group. Nobody in his family tree worked in the cotton fields. None were "strung up" just for being black. Nobody in his family tree was forced to "sit in the back of the bus". None of his 'black' ancestors or relatives have shed blood in America's wars. None have been subjected to generational persecution via a 'legal system' designed to maximize the number of "African Americans" rotting in American jails at any given time. Further, he certainly wasn't born in the Continental USA, and very likely wasn't even born in Hawaii. He spent his formative growing years in Indonesia. Help me out with this one mark.
