<<Another Country in the Middle East is practicing peaceful
Democracy.>>

Unh-hunh...

Just like Iran and Gaza.

It remains to be seen just who won what in this election. But we do
know that the theocratic Shias, who have close cultural, religious and
political ties to Iran, will have their "democratic" decisions subject
to veto by their ayatollahs. And we know that Sunni "democratic"
cooperation depends largely on our bribes. And that the Kurds mostly
want little to do with the rest of Iraq, "democratic" or not.

And, of course, we know that non-Shi'ite/Sunni/Kurd minorities --
especially the once-large and powerful Christian minority, which did
very well under Saddam --- will "win" absolutely nothing, seeing as
how they no longer exist in Iraq thanks to our invasion and the
resulting ethnic cleansing of "infidels" by our "allies".

The point, Lew, is that Iraq ain't America, there is a lot more to
"democracy" than an election, and their ethnic differences and
loyalties are not just skin-deep like ours (that is, you're not likely
to see the Sunni/Shia equivalent of millions of white Americans voting
for a black guy and, even if to a much lesser extent, vice-versa).

But even more than that, Lew, if Iraq (or any other country) was to
find its way to this or even true western-style "democracy", it was
their business to do it. Not ours to waste nearly 50,000 American dead
or seriously wounded and perhaps several trillion dollars doing it,

Especially when we were lied into this war on the basis that they had
attacked us on 9/11 and were about to nuke us, and that the war would
be cheap, easy and over in a matter of months!
