I heard Joel Osteen preach on Sunday. And it was all on money. God wants to transfer great wealth to the Christians. I noticed most all the references were from the Old Testament. He kept referring to God throughout his sermon but not to Jesus. I guess the great wealth transfer has already happened to Mr. Osteen and the rest of us are still waiting for ours. This is the kind of preaching we want to hear. It tickles our ears. This good looking guy wearing his fancy suit with his thick hair and his eyes fluttering constantly. He always has his little smile on his face while he's preaching, usually about money. Now don't get me wrong. God knows we need money and we have the right to pray about money needs like anything else. But Jesus didn't call us to go out preaching constantly about money. He said to go and preach the gospel, and that means about Jesus Christ, how He came and died on the cross and rose from the dead, to save all of us and give us eternal life some day in heaven. Those who believe and are baptized will be saved. Mr. Osteen did close his "sermon" with a brief request to invite Jesus into your heart, but I mean the whole sermon is to be about Jesus and what He taught. Jesus taught self denial. He taught fasting. This would seem to be a time when real men of God would be calling the world to prayer and fasting, humbling themselves before God and seeking Him because of the crazy economic situation we're in, as Pastor Jentezen Franklin has recently done. You can't serve God and Mammon (money) at the same time. If every other sermon by the money preachers is about money I think it's because they're preaching about their god which is money.
