Travis - As a long-time Dead Head, I have to admit that the Blues for Allah album was actually my first Gateful Dead purchase. It is completely different from most of their albums, making it so completely like most of their efforts. The Dead was noted for the wide variety of styles they utilized in concert and their willingness to experiment with almost anything. Blues for Allah was actually one of the more rich and intriguing of all their efforts. It was the pentultimate example of Jerry Garcia and his desire to master any and all styles of music. It was fun to watch as their friendship with a couple of Egyptian musicians translated into this new and different album and the concerts at Giza that were a consequence of this effort were some of the most unique of all Dead concerts. As we say, they are not just the best at what they do, they are the only ones that do it.
