John McCain said it well when he called the so-called stimulus bill
"generational theft". Like many, I call it "spendulus". I believe
history will prove that this massive increase of the public debt and
expansion of the federal government to be as harmful or more so than
Roosevelt's New Deal. I don't believe it will collapse our economy, as
it is one of the strongest in the world, but severe harm could be done
to it. It could take us years to recover. Once it does start to
recover, the Democrats will no doubt harp that their plan worked, and
their head-in-the-sand followers will believe them. Of course, it will
be difficult to prove that the economy would have gotten better sooner
without their plan, but thinking people won't seek or need any such
proof. We already know the answer, as it is evident from history.
