A Little Friday Night Earmark Fun

Your tax dollars at work:

$1,000,000 for the Inter-Tribal Bison Cooperative
<http://www.itbcbison.com/about.php>, "a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tribal
organization . . . committed to reestablishing buffalo herds on Indian
lands in a manner that promotes cultural enhancement, spiritual
revitalization, ecological restoration, and economic development." And
they use every part of the buffalo.

$3,939,000 for the Delta nutrition initiative
<http://www.ars.usda.gov/AboutUs/docs.htm?docid=1479>, which "applies
state-of-the-art nutrition tools to solve nutrition problems within the
Delta and to contribute to the future health and well-being of the
citizens of the region." It's in Little Rock. Need I say more?

$2,347,000 for the Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship Program
<http://www.hungercenter.org/national/programvision.htm> (and the Mickey
Leland International Hunger Fellowship Program), "a social justice
program that trains, inspires, and sustains leaders. We support a
diversity of local and national approaches to eliminate hunger, poverty
and oppression and nurture an innovative national network of creative
and inspiring change agents who share our vision of a just world. The
Emerson Program seeks to craft successful and mutually beneficial
partnerships between Fellows and Partner Organizations while developing
a new generation of hunger and poverty leaders. Ultimately, we hope to
create a country free from hunger and poverty where access to
nutritious, affordable and culturally appropriate food is recognized as
a basic human right." We are the world.

$1,000,000 for the Partnership For mid-Atlantic Fisheries Science
<http://www.house.gov/list/press/nj06_pallone/pr_july23_appropshowardlab.html>,
New Jersey, "to address the most urgent scientific problems limiting
successful management of summer flounder in the Mid-Atlantic region."
But what about the winter flounder?

$2,150,000 State of Wisconsin Height Modernization Program. They're
short as hell and they're not gonna put up with it anymore!

$1,000,000 City of Camden "for the purchase of equipment to more
effectively fight crime" It's the most dangerous city in the nation. Do
they really think a million bucks will be enough?

3,400,000 West Virginia Sheriffs' Association "to purchase visualization
technology." Yes, it would be better if the sheriffs could see.

6,623,000 Formosan Subterranean Termites Research, New Orleans, La.
Those termites are a long way from home.

$1,268,000 for Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance, Wisconsin. They
like to watch up there.

And in the no comment department:

$1,791,000 for Swine Odor and Manure Management Research, Ames, Iowa

$1,037,000 for Potato Research
