Love the reasoning behind this decision. "We always want to give our student-athletes (the opportunity) to participate in the postseason," ; guess that is more important than the jobs of the people they fired.

When the Trojans missed out on the NCAA tournament and the NIT, they said thanks but no thanks to the College Basketball Invitational and the CollegeInsider.com <http://CollegeInsider.com> tournament, college hoops' answers to the participation ribbons of youth sports. But Stanford's going. And Stanford is paying $60,000 for the opportunity to host a first-round game Wednesday against Boise State, and the same amount for a second-round game if it should come to that. By the way, Stanford's athletic department recently eliminated 21 jobs --- some through layoffs --- because of a budget shortfall. It isn't exactly AIG. But paying to play in a third-tier tournament before a smattering of fans doesn't exactly cause school pride to swell, does it? "We always want to give our student-athletes (the opportunity) to participate in the postseason," Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby e-mailed. "We expect to recapture the necessary (money) through ticket sales, concessions, etc. We will be glad to play as many games as we can." Best of luck to Stanford. And one zillion dollars to the first person who can say, without Googling, who won the CBI last year. http://www.mercurynews.com/columns/ci_11929492?source=email --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Thanks for being part of "PoliticalForum" at Google Groups.
