The ski instructors and paramedics should have been very suspicious of her outward "normal" and even giddy behavior. So I will share a personal story Maybe in 1984 I was rear ended at a stop sign by a truck- there were three other cars involved. The driver of the pickup was eating a hamburger and gazing away from the road. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and flew up against the windshield and lost consciousness for a few seconds then fell with a thud into my seat. The windshield looked like a giant spider web and the top of my skull had been the artist. I refused a trip to the hospital by the arriving ambulences and felt quite lucid and giddy. Later I had a headache- which I rarely have- and began to worry so I went to the hospital with my daughter to see if I had suffered a concussion or crack in my skull- no, I hadn't. Then I called D.- a surgeon- and he told me to play the piano which involves complex thinking/motor activity. Gershwin sounded great. But I did go in for some therapy for a stiff neck for a few weeks and the incident passed.//Just the other day, J. told me he is hearing of serious bone breaks in senior cross country skiers which surprised me.
