Had to have one for a house I was buying. Right after closing I got
transferred on a long term contract and sold the house right away.
About a month later I was reading in the old town newspaper that the
lawyer was disbarred for stealing closing costs and overcharging the
people he was handling the deals for. He also went to jail. I went
back over my paperwork and I was lucky but he stole from at least 10
people that they found. Lovely man. Salt of the earth.

Also had a job as a contract programmer at a govt office in Maryland.
The courts were right next door. The things that the lawyers were
pulling there were unbelievable. Whatever good feelings I had about
most lawyers were lost by what I witnessed going on in that courthouse.

Also had a traffic accident there. Not my fault at all. My car was
destroyed. Insurance did not want to pay a decent amount considering
that their client was grossly at fault. I moved over 3 lanes and even
went onto the median to evade her and she still hit me and then claimed
she could not see me. I was driving a fire engine red sports car at the
time. I ended up getting a lawyer to handle my side. First thing he
wanted me to do was to go see his doctor friend who would fit me up with
a collar brace. Then I was told exactly what to say in court. Dragged
on for 2 years but I finally won the case. Only problem was between the
lawyer and his doctor buddy I got bupkus out of it while they did well.
Thing was that my sports car was a Fiat about 6 years old so the
insurance didn't want to give me enough to come close to replacing it.
I even found almost a dupe of my car for $250 more than they offered me
and suggested that it would be cheaper for them to do that and they
turned it down. I guess their lawyers didn't think I would then go to a
lawyer of my own. The whole thing was rotten and unnecessary. I was
not trying to make a fortune on the deal. I just wanted my car replaced
with the equivalent of what I had in about the same condition as the one
I had. Seemed like a no-brainer to me considering it was totally their
client at fault.
