Arlene, While I love your style and the social questions posed there is and never will be a solution to the problem facing Dante or the many convoluted reasons and applied reasoning facing USA society.
Dante sells dope for the very same reason brokers/banks sold bad paper and put the world into the present economic crisis. Mo' money, Mo' quicker. The attitudes and intentions are identical, only the product is different. Neither cared about the damage done, both cry foul when busted, neither is held responsible to those they injure. It happens with people regardless of their reciept of "societal benefits", education-- health care-- home life. The need is for a change in the basic character of the nation as a whole. A return to black and white right and wrong. The return to Nuremberg style "Personal" responsibility. The emergence of the "Gray" areas discovered by attorneys within all levels of the law and the courts acceptance of these nefarious claims to offset personal responsibility has diminished your society like no other single issue. This happens at ALL levels of society, the druglords claims and or reasons for leniency (after having pleaded not guilty for whatever reason) are all slams on society or its pressures... in other words they did it but it's "not (completely) my fault". Yet society while thinking itself to be more enlightened for thinking there are more than a few reasons to offset responsibility is actually breeding itself into a time when nothing is actually anyones fault. Why shouldn't the dealer deal, the politician lie, the government withhold info, the mother cheat, the father have a mistress........... It is always (at least partially if not entirely) someone elses fault.
