COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A settlement has
been
reached in a lawsuit that alleged constitutional problems with Ohio's
voting procedures in the 2004 election.
The
League of Women Voters of Ohio and the Ohio Secretary of State's office
reached the federal court settlement Tuesday regarding the election
overseen by then-Secretary of State Ken Blackwell.
The lawsuit said long lines and voting
machine malfunctions kept people from their right to vote.
The
settlement finds no constitutional violations in the 2004 election and
orders current Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to conduct future
elections in a constitutional manner.
The settlement also requires each county
board of elections to submit a plan detailing how it will operate on
Election Day.
