How's that hope, change workin' out?

 The economy is tanking.

The Iranian people are revolting over a rigged re-election by Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, and Barack Obama neither condemns the corruption nor encourages
the protests.

North Korea is threatening some real fireworks on Independence Day by firing
a missile at Hawaii <http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>.

So how's that hope and change working out for you?

It's not that Obama isn't doing anything. He's doing plenty. But while
national security and America's principled stature in the world are
suffering, Obama is working
overtime<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>at dismantling
all vestiges of a free-market economy.

There's a silver lining under this dark cloud.

Obama's policies – both at home and abroad – are not sustainable. They are
counterproductive. They are destructive. They cannot and will not lead to a
safer and more prosperous country.

Days of reckoning are ahead of us.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, there is the
assurance<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>of future pain.
But if that pain results in a learning experience for
Americans, it might all be worth it in the end.

Is Obama bad news? Yes. Is he arguably in the worst president in U.S.
history? Yes. Does it appear he is actually trying to undermine the very
principles upon which the nation was founded? Yes. Do his policies invite
and encourage attack from enemies? Yes. Could he possibly do more damage to
the country if he were intentionally trying? No.

Nevertheless, we have a
teaching<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>moment here.

Each and every time in American history that we have faced political crises
like this, our country has rebounded.

In the 1970s, Jimmy Carter was elected because his opposition was a John
McCain-style Republican by the name of Gerald Ford. Unprincipled Republicans
like Ford and Richard Nixon had governed like Democrats for eight years.
Jimmy Carter, though, cowered before out enemies, scolded our friends and
destroyed the economy with regulation and spending.

Does all that sound familiar?

We just went through eight years of a Republican administration that was, in
many ways, especially in terms of spending and expanding
government<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>,
indistinguishable from the previous eight years of Democratic control.

That's how we got Obama. He was a
gift<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>from George W. Bush
and John McCain. He wouldn't be in the White House
without their ineptitude and reliance on unrestrained, uncontrolled
government spending and intervention.

Four years of Jimmy Carter, however, were all Americans needed to recognize
they made a mistake.

And I believe there are plenty of Americans who have already awakened to
that realization after only six months of Obama.

I have news for you. There's an election next year. It's not a presidential
election, but it's a midterm election – the kind that historically rewards
the party out of power.

*(Column continues below)*

The Democrats, who are running roughshod over the Constitution and American
traditions of freedom and self-government, are just a little over a year
away from a day of reckoning.

I wouldn't want to be a Democrat running in a contested congressional
district a year from now.

And while 2012 might seem like it's an eternity away, it's time for those of
us who want to roll back the socialism and tyranny imposed by
Washington<http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=101589#>under Obama to
start looking for a candidate.

And don't tell me there are no Ronald Reagans out there. The truth is there
wasn't a Reagan out there in 1977 either. No one would have given you a plug
nickel that Reagan would run again in 1980 – and especially not that he
would win.

So keep your eyes peeled for new leaders. And break out those protest signs.
We're in for a long, hard fight.
